MoT in a post-digital world

MoT has evolved over several decades after being conceived to modernise production. It has subsequently been instrumental in deploying and integrating information systems. Most recently, MoT was applied mainly to innovate and optimise the technology life cycle. The post-digital era originates from most businesses reaching completion of their digital transformation in the 4IR. The turning point towards the post-digital world is to innovate and differentiate to go beyond the foundational adoption of digital infrastructure, tools and concepts. The emphasis is on “momentary markets” where individualisation and instant on-demand design, fabrication and delivery will be the norm. Every moment will represent a potential new market of one. The relationship between business and society is thus changed fundamentally. The temporal aspects of technology are added to the business space. This provides an opportunity to the MoT executive to create life-worlds, where products change with their users over time.
